The above engraving, a portrait of Georg Wolfgang Knorr (1705-1761), both a scientist and an artist, appears in his Recueil de monumens des catastrophes que le globe terrestre a éssuiées, a multivolume work on fossils and geological sites. The work, published in German in 1755, is examined in a Natural Histories essay by Neil H. Landman, a curator in the Division of Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History.
