These items are samples of botanical specimens taken during field expeditions. They were numerically linked to field illustrations and photographs. Together, they provided reference for the museum artists in creation of crepe paper and wax accessories for use in habitat dioramas. While the botanical specimens would often discolor in transit, they gave artists a first hand understanding of the shape, texture and tactility of the plants and flowers that were being recreated.
