Paintings

59 x 184 cm. in frame 67 x 193 cm.

1 painting : oil on tin ; 59 x 184 cm. in frame 67 x 193 cm.

Sunrise scene of the Serengeti, with two wild dogs in foreground at left and grazing zebras and wildebeests in the background, near the base of a mountain with two peaks. The landscape includes several acacia trees.
Painted in preparation for the Hunting Dog diorama of the Akeley Memorial Hall of African Mammals. This painting was not used; instead, the background used in that diorama was painted by Robert Kane.
Leigh accompanied Carl Akeley in his 1926 expedition to East Africa and created several color sketches in the field. This painting was probably based on one of these sketches.
