Lion; Africa; 49-5; C.H. Chubb; 951... Lion "Sultan". New York Zoological Park; Man-Eating Lions of Tsavo. Carl E. Akeley Memorial Hall. The lions shown are actual individuals, described by Col. J. H. Patterson in his book, "The Man-Eaters of Tsavo. They were responsible for the deaths of more than 100 humans. Although both are males they are maneless, this being usual in the torrid regions of Africa. Taxidermy by Julius Friesser. Donated by Stanley Field; stamped: "James L. Clark American Museum of Natural History New York"
